'72 "heat shield" or splash shield

Since the weather is too cold outside to drive it, I'm working on the bottom of my coupe. This afternoon, while comparing notes, etc. with a good friend and showing him the steel that I've pulled of and re-finished, the topic of color of the above parts. These are the metal plates that attach to the outside of the floor pan right behind the engine. The JRM calls them heat shields (I think) and the catalogs call them inner splash shield. Whatever you call them, what color are they supposed to be, black or grey phosphate?

They were of a shade from a medium gray to a very dark almost greyish/black with some sparkling to it. Like the hood latches. The finish was caused by the age of the plating solution whether new or all most at the end of its useful life.

            Dick -

having a wild time with the car...
            It is stupid fast. LOL

but it's only good in a straight line - Vettes are by far a KAZILLION times superior in the handling department...

I'm planning by next summer to be a proud 67 Coupe owner.

Hope to see you and Reba in Kissimmee.. Have a great XMAS....
