Engine Labels on Valve Covers 427

From original valve covers with surviving labels, I'm curious where the glossy yellow plastic label came from?

Any one making them like the originals?

    Ron,
I may be wrong, but I think Long Island Corvette is the only company selling the engine code labels for the valve covers that are one decal, as opposed to other vendors who have 2 stickers. For example, LICS will sell you one IL decal for a 390hp 67, but other vendors will sell you one "I" and another "L". Factory was one piece decals....Best regards

Interesting that their web site has these zeroed out. No picture, price, etc.

Do you agree that they weren't shiny stick ons?

The ones in your photos are from later years (70+) not midyears.

Patrick - agreed, they were easy to photograph, now I do have one picture of a Bloom Gold Survivor with part of the label showing the same colors.

I was able to one piece valve cover decals from Keen Parts. Not shiney, more paper like.

                From a midyear?

The replacement midyear labels have been around so long that I have not really looked at them. The odds of one being "real" are so small that it doesn't seem worth the effort.

I'd be surprised if the midyear ones were originally made of a plastic-like material. They're way too shiny.

                  Patrick,

Yes, a 67, had a nice surviving 'Made by the Tonawanda team' label too.

And it is in color like the label pics I posted.

Yes, the Tonawanda labels were designed to survive. The yellow engine code labels only needed to survive long enough to get out the door at St. Louis. After that they were totally superfluous. I think the mid year labels were paper and were often not even glued on very well.

Joe I agree. I vaguely remember some of these being in the engine plants as 'little as possible', and as you can see from the surviving examples they're barely retained. Now I want you to guess how many I had to look through to find those 3?

I just made this one on my computer. It is 1.75x1.00.

Print it out on GOOD photo paper, spray with clear satin Krylon, let it dry.

Put some adhesive on the back and you are good to go.

You could also use some label stock with adhesive on the back...

What was that glue we had back then - mucilage? This one needs to be a little like water based.

Using label paper is easy and generally accurate. I've tried several brands and the end result is usually not much different. I would suspect that the photo-paper-and-paint method is a fair bit more expensive.
