    Finish Question for Seat Retainers

    Hi Everyone,

What is the proper finish for the seat mounting rear strap and the seat front hold down retainer plate for a 61?

I would think that the rear strap might have some interior overspray on it, but I am interested in what the natural finish would have been. Mine are very rusty and I would like to clean them up before installing the seats.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    Dennis

Dennis, this is the only picture I have showing an original on my 62.

      John,

Thanks for the picture. In the picture, it looks like the seat retainer and the entire floor is painted body color. Is this correct?

            Dennis

The floor should not be painted body color. There would be some overspray, but not to the degree shown. The car has been repainted, at least to some degree. Note the overspray on the seat belts. The body mount bolt is also painted. Since the body was painted before being mated to the frame, this could not have been done at the factory.

There is no paint on the seat belts. They are very faded and poor camera shot.

The point remains, the entire floor was almost never totally painted!!!!!!!!!! Ed is right on--there was overspray, but only minimal on the floor, not across the whole floor. (That observation is based only on the 28 62's and 9 61's that I have owned, along with 100's of others I've studied over the past 38 years) Across the whole floor is aberration/anomaly, not regular practice.

                  Mike,

What kind of paint would you expect to find on the rear seat mounting bracket?

                    Dennis:

So there is no mistaken terminology, the following are the finishes that were used for the various brackets used for seat and seat belt installation:

                    1. Brackets for power top equipment and/or seat belts were painted body color.

                    2. The flat "L" brace should have no paint. I believe is was raw steel or clear cad plated. Again, no paint.

                    3. Hambones will be body color.

The above is addresses a 1962.

                    Ed
