    Glove box light question

I have the glove box out and noticed the switch ( glove box door ) I have seems to only be an off and on switch no light attached .
( orange wire with a black stripe. ) Does this mean my car did not come with the glove box light ? I had to cut the wire to remove the front face of the glove box as well.

I believe this switch turned on the lower side interior lights same as when you open the doors.
    Sorry for the novice question.

Wayne, I had a recent post on the glove box shield and there is a pic that shows the correct switch. and the sheild that was on later cars. I believe 63 all had gove box lamps.

Take a look at LICorvette website, part no. 13-19a and click in the "detail". It shows how the wire with a hook mates with the housing and shield. I think opening the gloove box creates a ground for the bulb. Closing the glove box door interrupts the ground and extinguishes the lamp. There is no connection between the golve box light and the courtesy lights that actuate with doors opening.

Doug, correct. When you open the glove box door. The black pin in the switch opens and a complete circuit is completed from the switch-glove box door frame to the Z bar and eventually back to the battery.

When you close the door the black pin closes and disconnects the complete circuit. Saying that, the orange wire is always hot, so if you pull the glove box and don't disconnect the battery you have a hot wire. Either disconnect the battery or put electrical tape over the contact on the orange wire.

Thank you for all the info and the safety tip on the hot wire.
