    67 Fueltank

Hi Guys, What are you doing to restore the outside of an origional tank?
The "tank paint" that has zinc in it?

I would think that having it replated would be almos as much as buying a repo.

I do want to keep this tank, the inside is like brand new. I was really supprised when I pulled the pickup/strainer, it looks like it just came out of a box.

The last time there was fuel in the tank was 1979 and the little bit that was still in there washed right out.

Looks like it is pretty good shape. Personally, I would just leave it alone and call it "patina". I definetely would not use the tank paint - trust me, it will look painted. If you want it to appear as new, then I would just replace it with a repro.

I cleaned up my tank using purple power and then lightly cleaning using steel wool. Came out looking great. I then put on a light coat of satin clear to keep it clean.

Here is a thread on the subject.

Thanks Stephen, your tank looks great.

SG's taking some of the dirt off but isn't working that well. I'll hit NAPA for some power purple.
