On my new harness there is a 12 gage black with white tracer coming out right next to the instument mount ground. It has an insertion connector. Anybody know what it connect to? I cant find it on the wiring diagram. Thanks as usual

Re: 54 wiring question
on the drivers side....
there are two wires going to the courtsey switch
There are two wires going to the courtsey lamp
there is the ground to the metal for the instruments
there are two wires for the brake light switch
there is a pink and a red that go to the junction block on the firewall
there is a bunch that go to the light switch.
there is a several that go up to the steering column for the horn, turn signals and brake lights.
I think the black is the horn wire....
i can look tonight....

Re: 54 wiring question
Yeah, its a LL harness. I have the rest of it figured out except for this Ground, it exits the harness right next to the instument panel ground. I dont think it goes to the light switch. The turn signal leads have been accounted for. This plugs into something. I appreciate your effort!!! The diagram isnt showing a 12 gage black and white tracer wire going anywhere near.- Top

Re: 54 wiring question
I figured it out last nite, its the ground to the courtsey light switch. What threw me was the right side has a 10 gage wire and the left side has a 14 gage wire. It didnt help that the connectors are too small for original screws. I guess I can drill them, I hate to already splice a new harness with the right size connector. Sorry if I caused any inconvienance. Thanks again- Top

Re: 54 wiring question
depends on if its an early 54 or late
the late 54's - the courtsey light wire - "plugs" into the back of the switch
the 53's and early 54's the ground was sandwiched between the body and the switch
they redesigned the switch
alot of guys will attach them to the back of the screw with a body nut so the switch sits flush.1954 Corvette #3803 - Top Flight 2012, Bloomington Gold 2012,

Re: 54 wiring question
Thanks Chris, my car is right in the middle of the run. Can I just attach the wire to the screw and double nut it? Im not familiar with a "body nut" It would seem the ground to the tail lights would have the issue.- Top
