Mystery closed type clip, 5/16 dia hole in BOTTOM: what is it, and where does it go?

    Car is a 1967 coupe, L79 with C60.

The mystery clip pictured below was in a bag with my three original tail light harness clips, so it likely came from the rear of the car. I think I removed it from the wiring harnesses at the same time as the three tail light harness clips. The dash harness is still installed, so it's not related to that one. This clip is NOT rubber coated, and unlike many of the brake and fuel line clips (and tail light harness clips), it does NOT have raised edges on the sides.

It is 11/16" wide (wider than the 1/2" wide tail light harness clips and 9/16" brake & fuel line clips). The clip has three small circular depressions across the clip face. Appears to have been painted black, and has a 5/16" diameter round hole in the BOTTOM of the clip, as well as a slightly oval hole where the clip closes.

What is this, and where does it go?

    Picture 1: overall length = 1-1/2"
    Picture 2: back side
Picture 3: three depressions or dimples across front clip face
    Picture 4: side view

      Scott,
Looks like it might be the one hole strap that clamps the rubber fuel line to the frame. Located between the sending unit and steel fuel line.

        Page,

Thanks for the reply. I thought that might be what it was (UPC 8-B3, Item 9, GM 125921), but when I checked my pictures, it looks like that clip was heavily corroded (see picture below, with arrow).

I have not been able to find the GM 125921 clip shown in the photo, unless this is it... but the one in the photo is caked with heavy reddish-brown rust. This clip I'm trying to identify has no rust on it, shows what appears to be aged black paint, and it's surprisingly clean compared to the brake, fuel and even tail light harness clips

Does the clip in the rubber fuel-hose-to-frame location normally have a 5/16" hole in the bottom (is that why you refer to it as a "one hole strap")? Does any OTHER closed-type clip have a 5/16" diameter hole in the bottom, serving no apparent purpose?

            Right you are!

After some checking, I think that style of clip would only be found on the ammeter capacitor, the radio capacitor or the voltage regulator capacitor. The first two are still on the car.

My voltage regulator capacitor was missing. I bought a used original replacement about a year ago, and after checking, it has the same three circular depressions across the front face of the clip that holds the capacitor.

Not sure what my original voltage regulator capacitor clip (minus the still missing VR capacitor) was doing in the rear of the car...

            Thanks Rich,

            Scott
