    63 4 speed shifter

    What is the easiest way to remove a 4 speed shifter from a early 1963? In went in easy with the body off.

    Carl;

    There is no "easy" way.... given the working room... I've done this on my early '63 a couple of times. When I did it, here is what I did..

    Removed the shifter levers from the transmission.. leave the rods attached to the levers.

    Removed the three mounting bolts holding the shifter to the tail shaft housing... working space is very limited and this requires patience but it can be done.

    Remove the shifter knob and slide the shifter down through the rubber boot. You need to work the reverse "T" through the boot but once that is done the shifter will basically fall out.

    Hope this helps,

    Joel
