    Air cleaner decals

    Hi
79 L82 4 speed very original car with original tires and exhaust with 30,000 miles. My question is there appears to have been two decals attached to the air cleaner lid ( all that remains is the glue) One was rectangle in shape and not sure about the other can someone give me a clue. I think the rectangle one was to use original gm parts. Ed

I've never seen more than one. Perhaps along the way a previous owner attempted to install a second label and it came off...no telling.

Yes, the label read "Keep your GM vehicle all GM" and would have carried the CG code with # 8996220. The CG is the broadcast code and therefore the label served as identifying the part by its code that reconciled with the build sheet. No other label would have been required for that purpose.

Safety labels were liberally applied as well during those years but its not like the fan blade where someone would have stuck their hand down to see if they could have stopped the blade from turning...point being is there was no safey issue with an air cleaner that did not turn, twist or cause a hazard.

Many times, dealers, service centers and owners put service stickers on the air cleaners as well. Perhaps you have some residue from one of those. Post a picture of what you have and let us have a look !

The keep your GM label is on the side of the air cleaner on this car. Thanks for the info. Ed
