Thanks, I thought I remembered some of these without a part number stamped.

Looking at the original print for the 3770245 pulley, it appears that the the code, and possibly the part number were added on 19 Sept 65. (hard to read the small print)

I would be interested in more info on this from other 63-64 owners with originals.

Michael -- I just took a magnifying glass to verify that the '245' pictured above in my post # 6 has no part number stamped, either on the cone or on the clutch mount face. Got it in a box of parts from a father/son resto-rod project -- mild conversions of a '64 (VIN 086xx) and a '65 (VIN 101xx). Bought the AM/FM radios and a half dozen black steel wheels, and they threw in the rest for free. I don't know which of the two cars this pulley (incl. water pump and '529' fan and Sweitzer clutch) is from, but I do believe that all except the water pump is original to that period.

Just a theory, but I feel that as the sheer number of pulley designs multiplied throughout the C2 years, part numbers were stamped for service reasons, to avoid errors. Just look at how the P&A books became gradually thicker from the '64 thru '70 period (which is all I have).

      Wayne,

I think you have a good point. The mid 60's was probably the begining of the new multiple belt/pulley era.
That was about the time that air conditioning really caught on for Chevrolet and also the beginning of the new AIR systems. Things got quite complicated around that time as far as belt and pulley combinations. It would make sense that the "numbered pulley era" started around that time.

The original print for the 3770245 is difficult to read but it looks like the stamped part number and alpha code was added in late 1965.
