    C2+ Brake Hose Line

Anyone ever have a 63 to 83 brake line collapse or plug? I just replaced a right rear hose knowing the brake was not working with a firm peddle and the other three brakes working. The fluid is silicone and came through the new line clean. Any idea what would cause this?

Not to me personally, but to fellow NCRS members both on this board and at meets. Rubber deteriorates. It will if the brake line is NOS and has sat on a shelf for years, if in service and the fluid is DOT3, 4 or 5.1 and if the fluid is DOT5. NOTHING is forever.

I know one NCRS member with a 5-star Bowtie car who inserted copper tube into the brake line so he could drive the car on and off the show field and still have the brakes work with the original brake line. That is one of those "don't do this at home folks" stories, I only wish I could add "we are professionals and we know what we are doing." But in honesty I have to add "we are nuts, and you should do as we say, not as we do."

Jerry, this is known as a imploaded hose, the inner part of the hose collaspes onto the outter and stop fluid from appling the disc caliper pistons, sometimes the failed hose will also keep the brakes applied and overheat the pads and rotors which is more common than not appling the brakes at all.

Yes. I don't see this too much on vintage cars, since I only work on a few of them. However, this is a common problem on mid 90's full size Chevrolet pickups. I've replaced many of them.
