I'm fitting the rear bumpers on my '67 and noted that the left rear bumper sits about a washer thickness from the forward mount area and the right bumper about 3 washer thicknesses. The rear brackets are loose and this is the closest I can bring the front mount area in. I did not see any shims called out in the AIM for this area of the bumpers. is it typical to use shims to get a good fit in this area?

Are the bumpers original? I have had fitting problems with replacement types.- Top

Re: Fitting Midyear rear bumpers
Nope, its not hit but I did replace the quarter panels so maybe the quarters are a bit off.
With bumpers back to back, the right bumper is about 1/4" longer than the left bumper at the forward point too. They appear to be original bumpers based upon the amount of rust underneath.- Top

Re: Fitting Midyear rear bumpers
Scott, are you installing them in the correct sequence? Start on the very rear. put the bolts in very loose, then start shimming. This will ensure the body does not bend in when you tighten the bolts and will pull the outside of the bumper closer to the body. Work from the center out.Last edited by Harry S.; November 18, 2011, 03:34 PM.
