Anybody have a suggestion on a way to install front t top trim on without damaging paint? It seems like the outside rear corner is the problem. Also is there supposed to be metal backing for the rivets that hold the side molding on ? I've searched for answers without any luck. Any help is appreciated

Re: 69 t top trim install
Hi Brad,
I didn't remove the front piece of trim so I can't help on that part of your question.
The roof panels on my 71 didn't have a backer of any kind for the rivets. The fiberglass seems to be thick enough to control and 'grab' the shank of the rivet as it expands.
Good Luck!

Re: 69 t top trim install
how heavily was the paint applied?
was it base/clear or single stage?
When I did my t-tops, I taped an edge that was about the width of the molding depth. Then did some wet sanding to thin out that edge. You don't want to get to thin or the molding will not grab. it is a slow fit process.
you could also put some dawn dish detergent on the t-top before hand, it is slippery stuff.
I am guessing this process was not such a big deal when the cars were painted with lacquer - paint was not as thick as urethane.- Top
