1958 vette oil in exhaust and smoking

58 rebuilt engine smokes and has oil in intake and exhaust. Rings replaced still smokes, heads checked for valve guids and cracks nothing found. Heads may have been milles but fit looks ok on intake. Any suggestions engine shop is lost
    thanks RDR

    Ronald,

Take the plugs out and see if all are oil soaked and maybe a compression test while they are out.

If a few have oil on them and some don't and the compression is good ,then the intake may be the problem.

If the compression is bad or not even, then you have to consider the rings again.

We did a wet and dry compression test and all were even. Bolted a set of power pack heads on and all was well. Have you ever seen a head that was flat mill too much and had leaks at the bottom of the FI intake?

Yes, I had one on my 71 350. I had to mill the front and back of the intake a few thousands in order for it to seal. It was leaking on the bottom of the intake gasket that matched the heads. The end was squeezing the gasket out and not giving the head side enough room to seal. It is easy to see when you pull the intake as the bottom will be wet from the leaking(head sides)
        It's a good life!

Ron, if there is a ring sealing problem, generally the other circumference of the top of piston will be wet (with oil). I not sure if you have the heads off. but if you have access to video scope camera a peak in one of the cylinders will tell you. the other thing and I not sure if your car is a power guide, Is to check the modulater valve for sucking trans fluid up the vacuum hose into the intake.

As Paul says if you had the block decked or the heads milled, it could be that the intake ports are exposed on the under side of the head andthe engine is acting as a vacuum and drawing oil into the engine.( The milling of heads and decking will have to be qiute abit).

          Just a few thoughts Ron.
