Struck out on that one with a quick search. I'll do a little more digging when I get home later today to see if anything turns up. Most of the time it's just dumb luck, but we've gotten lucky quite a few times lately !

Google is not the end all, its pretty poor actually unless you already know the answer.

If you want to find people, you pay at a paid search site or try zabasearch.

There are a some Kruski's in MO and since KC is my 2nd home town, you also have to know that the Kansas side of KC is where all the hi rollers live so search there too.

It looks like the Corvette's home town of St Louis is a good start.

Ron -- I'd never heard of www.instavin.com, [thanks]. So I punched in the VIN of a known '65 convertible (not mine), but I changed the body style to coupe (ie. 437 rather than 467). Came back with proper general identification as a 1965 Corvette, and added that info was available on this car (huh ?). I suppose my next step would be to fill in the info blanks (my name and address) and supply a credit card -- not expensive at $ 6.99 per search).

But since I know that this car does not exist with that exact VIN, went back and changed to proper convertible body style and it red-flagged, saying no info available (double huh !!). Seems it will accept 13-digit VIN codes if prior to 1981 model.

Has anybody had any luck with C2's on this website, especially with data (say) 40 from years ago ?

Punched in my 64 VIN and got the same answer as 2 years ago..."No information for this VIN". It also still has a problem with the 12 digit 64 VIN.

So when you see an orange barrel in the road, do you hit it or drive around it?

The answer to above is if it chokes on the vin, contact them (going around the barrel) and they probably will send you what they have less the charge. When I did this a year or so back, they were working backward to accept the older vins' however there were a couple states - shown on their web site - that were not providing data.

Never the less, yes I was successful at finding a "title transfer mileage unknown" date in 1969 for my 66 that I did not have before and having a alpha title scheme corresponds to when the car was titled by the second owner given we know the 3rd owner. It was very helpful from that extent.

I'm not going to waste my time or money on a website that does'nt cater to what I need, especially when there are other places to get the information. Paying thier fee when they say that there is no information is idiotic.

I have been trying to find my 67 vert, which I purchased new, for about 15 years and have not been able to find any info. I tried the above site and the only information it showed was that the car was regiterted in Missouri 8/14/95. This is the most info I have been able to find in all my searches. The fact that they were not able to give me any more data, I wonder if the Missoure info is for real. I have all the glove box info and the original window sticker. Vin is 194677s112997. Any help would be appreciated.

Your old car was also in Florida at one time. It was titled in July of 1990. Let me keep working on this and i will see what I can come up with. I will send you a PM with a little info.

The amount of responces on this post leed me to believe there is definitely a need for corvette history detectives. Perhaps we could list a service and charge for...sounds familier.

There is a very good detective, but this info is just very hard to find. I used instavin for my '66, it found some registrations and names back only until 1998 or so, nothing further. Privacy laws have destroyed this process, especially in California. I have a detective on a very rare car and my '67, but it is hard and can be slow.

Here's one from Scranton, PA but now in California with my 67:



Don was roommate of mine in 67 in the Navy in Little Creek, Va. I remember when he brought it home to our bachelors "snake ranch" in Virigina Beach in July, 67. I had a brand new 67 Renault 10 at the time.

Well, about 15 months later, Don was going to get transferred to Phil Naval Shipyard and was going to get "married". His wife-to-be told him "to get rid of the Vette and get a nice family car".

Hearing this, I told Don that I had the greatest family car. 4 doors, 4 banger, the front seats go down to the back for camping. With a little encouragement and $2500, we finally traded cars. I have had the Corvette ever since.

If anyone knows of a Don Paulino from Scranton, PA, please let me know. I'd like to ask him how my Renault 10 is doing.

Issue is NCRS is small compared to the total Corvette population. Tom H has some excellent tools though and I would suggest instavin.com to see if it comes up there - if it does, its worth a more serious effort.

You are to be commended since on the flea bay either the trim tag gets changed or the papers change to match something as nice as these.

I just tried "Instavin". Plugged in my VIN, Instavin showed there was information available, paid the $6.99, viewed my report.

My information - my car was built May 18, 1970.
Instavin information - my car was titled in PA on July 16, 1970 with 59,000 miles on it.
(Yep, two days shy of being two months old the car was titled with 59,000 miles on it.)
Included in Instavins title report is a hyperlink for "Pennsylvania".....but that link just happens to be a dead link.
No names, adresses, or any other information. Waste of time and money in my case.

Mike, send them an email a tell them you want your money back, but at the same time nail them on the discrepancy.

What they should do if you word it right, #1 give you your money back, then, #2 they get you the detail behind the detail and with that you usually have an email of a real person behind the scene that can actually look at the computer results and answer questions.

In the end its not their fault, its the government's data.

I ended up with a lot more info (even if it was one date for a PA title) for a little effort and $0, than had I just left the road block in place when the answer was no data found.
