    L78 Washer Bag Bracket Placement

Had to replace the front clip on my 65 because Bubba had previously done a very very bad job using a 67 clip from a small blk car. I'm installing all the hardware with no reference other than the AIM and various photos. The AIM dimensioning for the Wash Bag Bracket does not appear to agree with the photos I have of known originals. The AIM shows the rivet centerline 2.84 inches above the top battery access cover bolt holes centerline. This dimension places the bracket much higher on the wheel well than the photos I have show. I would appreciate it if someone could measure the location of their bracket relative to the battery access bolt holes for me.

    Thanks for the help

Dale -- my 396 front end has been replaced as well, so I turned to my '65 C60 car with original fiberglass (same location for washer bag as L78) and measure 2_1/8" from center of rivets (2 locations) to center of the two uppermost filler (battery access) panel bolts. I see where C60 Sheet B2 shows the 2.84", but that's almost 3/4" higher.

      Wayne,

That was the problem I was having with the AIM, the 2.84 inch dimension just did not seem right. I contacted a friend I know with a 65 L78 and his measurement was 2.25 inches from the battery access panel bolt holes. I think the shorter dimensions are more reasonable and will use them. The 2.84 placement of the bracket would make removing and replacing the bag difficult. I guess this is one of those assembly line modifications. I have found a number of conflicts with the AIM during this restoration.

      Thanks,

        Wayne and Dale,

The 1963-1966 AIMs all show 2.84", but apparently they were installing them lower in Production. The 1967 AIM shows 1.97", close enough (from an installer's standpoint) to Wayne's 2-1/8" actual measurement, so it looks like the '67 AIM finally caught up to what was being done on the Assembly Line.
