During judging of the car I was informed that I was missing the license plate frame and two screws. I have attached a picture of the back of the car. What am I missing? I have a chrome piece that goes around the plate that is not on the car but it has no screws to hold it on. It gets cliped on. What am I missing.

Re: License Plate frame and 2 screws?? what am I missing
Did you have the "chrome piece" with you at the judging event? Did you show it to the judges? It looks like you have a C3 and the original license plate frame is not chrome, but stainless steel. There are other detail features that separate SERVICE and reproduction license frames from the original, but if that was the judges reason for taking a deduction they should have told you and/or written their reasons on the judging forms. Of course if you didn't have the frames (two of them) at the event they are missing and the reason for the deduction.
It is hard to see the screws that are holding the license on in your picture, but what I can see of them do not look like originals for a C3.
To give you more detail it will be necessary for you to share with us the year of your Corvette. My crystal ball isn't working too well tonight.Terry- Top

I can't really get a good view of your photo, however, if the car is a C3, what I think you are looking for is a stainless steel (not chrome) frame similar to the one in my attached photo. There are actually supposed to be 2 frames per car. One for the front and one for the rear. They came with the car from the factory along with a set of 4 (I think) plate mounting screws. These are pan head 1/4" X 20 screws and they came (again, I think) in a small paper envelope.
The photo I attached is actually a reproduction. Original frames are slightly different in the rivet that attaches the clip to the frame. Others may be able to help more with this detail. Hope this helps.Attached FilesDon Lowe

Frame clips to plate. Framed plate then mounts to bezel, utilizing 1/4" X 20 screws thru the top 2 holes in the plate. See photo of mine, attached for reference.Attached FilesDon Lowe

Thanks Joe. I was thinking after posting earlier, the screws aren't 1/4" X 20. They're more like a self tapping screw like these in the Paragon catalog. I think 1/4" is right, but the thread pitch is definitely not 20 TPI. Originals are a bit different in the threaded area.Attached FilesDon Lowe

Dale,
Here are 2 photos of the bracket on my '69. The bracket and screws are the originals. Hope this helps. Sorry that they are a little out of focus. They looked great on the camera but when I got home and put them on the computer they were this way.

From what I have read here the reproduction stainless frames are not the same as originals. Others will have to chime in here but I think that you could find originals on eBay or at swap meets maybe even ones still in the paper GM bags. The license plate screws are available at NAPA under Balkamp #665-3225. There are 20 to a package and cost only a few dollars. This what I have on my '69 and got full credit and a "smiley face" at the Novi National.

Here is that "W" I was talking about on the back side of a front bracket. Maybe the same co. that made the hood support?
