    67 Driveshaft Paint Location

Thought I'd throw up a pic of my driveshaft paint marks.

But my question is, has anyone seen the paint ring location reversed, pointed towards the rearend?

It's a bit strange that mine are on the "wrong " end.

I bought the car in 1973 and would be supprised if the u-joints had been changed but anything's possible.

Yes I saw one on a 63 and it still had the original u joints. Yours look original, check for a part number.

In general these do not get checked during judging since it's too hard to get there however with all the new camera equipment on the market it will be getting checked soon.

      Thanks Alan,
There's no part number on the assembly except on the trunion at the slipyoke end (3742995) which is probably just the trunion p/n. Funny, the trunion at the rearend has no p/n on it.
There's no p/n on the tube.

Sorry Bill, was talking about the U-Joint. From what I could see it did look original. My understanding is that those were only used in production and that the SR are very different.

Oh, got ya. Yea, I believe the U-joints ar origional.
Still funny that the paint marks are at the rear but anyone could have easily flipped the driveshaft. But I'm sure the motor/trans etc. had never been out of the car.

          Thanks for the help.

These are the marks on my original 67 driveshaft before and after restoration.

Thanks Stephen, were the origional rings pointed towards the trans or the rear end?

Must be the lighting/camera but the one ring looks blue in the pic.

Bill, The paint rings were toward the transmission and the colors were blue and red with the paint daubs green on my original shaft. They were also about 1" wide rings. The green daubs were at both ends, probably signifying something to do with the u-joints.

I believe the rings were painted on while the shaft was in a lathe type machine. The markings were probably applied with a brush and the width was determined by how the brush happened to be held while the shaft turned.

Because the rings were painted on by a person, they could probably end up anywhere along the shaft....nothing uniform from shaft to shaft. Maybe some guys were left handed while others were right handed.

Thanks again, the blue and red are supprising though. Mine are clearly orange and green. The dabs are lime green.
Yea, the rings are concentric enough that they had to be done while the shaft was spinning.
Mine happen to be 1/2 in.

The only data I've seen is in the Chassis Restoration book that says orange & green.
