Guys, I am still working on my '56. I am wondering what you are using for floor mats and for a car cover. My carpet is beige so you can understand why I have a concern there. I am also looking for a good way to cover the car that won't scratch the paint and protect against dust. I do not want the cover to be water-proof so it can breathe. I appreciate your input! Thanks in advance! Brooks Glover (2141)

Re: Car Covers & Floor Mats for '56 & '57
I use the Legendary brand floor mats in my 57 and 62.
They cover the carpet next to the seat and forward and are great.
I believe they only come in red or black but red would look great on beige carpet.

Re: Car Covers & Floor Mats for '56 & '57
Bruce, thanks for your reply to my post. I have looked both in Corvette Central's Accessory catalog and on line at the 53 - 62 Legendary Rubber Floor Mats. From the pictures, I can't tell how far up the mats go. The driver's mat from the picture looks like maybe in line with the accelerator pedal. Can you further enlighten me? A picture would be great. Thanks in advance!

Re: Car Covers & Floor Mats for '56 & '57
When I ordered new carpet for the 56 from Al Knoch, I had them make me a matchint set of floor mats from the same Daytona Weave. The edges are bound with the same type vinyl used on the seats plus a full heel pad was sewn in. My carpet/interior is not correct 56-57 color, BUT it is the correct Daytona weave, cut and stitched correctly for a 56-7 car.

Brooks,
The drivers side mat goes up to the top of the carpet on the firewall and also has a cutout for the headlight dimmer switch and also goes behind the gas pedal. The passenger side is similar without the cutouts.
I'll try and get some pictures later today.

Re: Car Covers & Floor Mats for '56 & '57
Brooks, Al Knoch manufactures floor mats for '56-'57's in beige and red from the same material as his carpets. They look pretty good. I am still using the Rubbermaid red translucent mats I bought from my Chevy dealer in '64. 'Still just like new.
As for car covers a number of retailers sell "flannel lined" covers that breath for indoor use. The flannel does a good job of protecting the paint, trim and glass from scratches. Last week I received an email from one of them about a car cover sale---but I can't remember which one. I have one on my '57 from MG Mitten (remember Marion?) that I bought in '65 and it is till very good condition. I just put it in the dryer to remove dust and particles. Too much washing will deteriorate them.

Brooks,
I was wrong about the mats, they stop about 4 inches from the top of the carpet.
Attached are pictures from my 57 and 62.- Top

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I guess I need to try Al Knoch again and see what of if they can do anything. I am still up in the air for a cover. Hopefully I will come up with something soon. Brooks Glover (2141)- Top

Re: Car Covers & Floor Mats for '56 & '57
Guys, I checked with my buddy's shop today. He knows Melony and some other of Al Knoch's employees personally. Much to my dismay, I was told today that Al Knoch can make mats but they would not be of the same carpet material as my carpeting. I was told that both beige and red carpeting with the daytona weave is now discontinued and will not be made at any time in the near future. I sure am glad I bought my carpeting when I did. A sad day for those of us who love and want to keep our '56 & '57 classics looking original. I still may have Al Knoch make me some mats but I am still looking at other options. The jury is still out as to what kind of car cover to use also. I will keep the group posted as to what I do and why. Thanks again to all of you who replied to my post. Brooks Glover (2141)- Top
