54 Hood

Is a '53 hood the same as a '54 hood? I have one labeled as a '54 in my auction and need to know if it will fit a '53 also. Thanks in advance

both will fit . early 54s and all 53s had homemade pop up blocks , somewhere in 54 the factory built the pop up blocks into the hood frame.I dont know the date or vin #.

Dick,

In addition to what Bill said, one would expect the underside of a 53 hood to have a lot of fiberglass grain (rough finish) and maybe even some grain showing through on the top side.

Dick,

Hood stabilizer blocks - in the nose of the engine compartment, in front of the radiator, just below the hood opening. Approx 1 1/4" long by 1/2" by 1/2".

Thanks Gary. I sort of thought that might be what Bill was talking about. They look like something that had been added as an afterthought. I sorta bluffed my way thru most of the C-1 parts, by the process of elimination, but I was totally out of my element on the '54 parts.

Is a '56 and '57 hood the same???

Yes 56-7 have the rubber hood stabilizer blocks - photos attached.

the 54 blocks were made of fiberglass, the 57 were hard rubber.mike
