    56 rear axle

    I have a 56 with a rear axle #3707306. I think this is correct for a 56 corvette. On the driver side the letters and numbers are AA 6 2 8. Does this mean the first A is for corvette, second A the gear ratio (???), 628 month and date (Jun 28)???

      Joe,

      3707306 is a '56 rear end, AA628 decoding:
      A (Detroit plant - only Corvette rear ends came from the Detroit plant B indicates the Buffalo Plant)
      A (3:70 gear, 3 speed transmission)
      6 (Month)
      28 (28th Day of June)
