    Car storage problem solved!

For all of you guys who love cars...............you'll love this!! My idea of a "Man Cave"

Minnesota's: Land of 10,000 Stories. Take a few minutes to enjoy this "great" idea!

It looks like my car puts me with the lawn chair crowd outside the front gate.

Very interesting, Joe. But in 2000 I took the $40,000 that my wife and I had saved for a down payment on a beach cottage and built a 1900 sf addition onto our house. This included my shop, a sunroom, and a master bedroom suite. Storing my cars away from my house is neither convenient nor fun. While it would be fun to watch those cars at the "condos", it looked like the cars were out for a public event, so I doubt that you would see much of them if you owned one of the "condos".

    Paul

P.S. Notice that no mention was made about security and maintenance, and the extra fees for it.

I've seen that story before. It's an interesting concept. It would be more appealing if they incorporated a track at the facility.

To me, it makes more sense to invest in garage space on your own property.

VIR has condos, although I don't know if they have garages. There was also a concept by a well known race driver to have garage/residential condos with a private track somewhere near Concord NC. This was seriously talked about 15 years ago. I'm sure that there are a few examples of this.

              Paul,

All you have to do is live in the right neighborhood. Oh, and have a lot of bucks too!

At Autobahn, we offer an unparalleled motorsports experience designed to cater to enthusiasts of all levels.

I don't know what membership is now, but when they opened 30K was the buy in, of course then you had to build your toy box. IF you want to run on the track there are some track days available, and the C6 guys with Katec as organizer do some real serious track experiences here. One of my bucket list things.

Terry, I see you also have a C6 Z06. Every time I drive mine I feel as though I can't even scratch the surface of it's capabilites on a public road. I would love to do something like the Spring Mountain 3 day course or Bondurant. Some local track time would be fun. Katech is a class act. They know their motors.

I've got something similar, but it's a real shop, not a show place. For the average guy, you can do it a lot cheaper than they are talking about. While it would be a lot nicer to have it on your own property, I am getting older and moved to a condominium because I didn't want the problems of owning a house in Minnesota anymore. Actually having your shop a mile or two from your home can have it's advantages. I can go there to "get away" and the sessions spent there can be more focused. I've had mine for four years and it's one of the best things, I've done.

                    Paul,

I did a track day with my C6 earlier this year at New Jersey Motorsports Park. It was run by Hooked on Driving. Since I was a beginner I had a coach in tha car with me all day. In the first session after two laps of "driving" around the course, the instructor said "let me drive and show you what this car can do". I did and for three laps I was amazed at the cornering, acceleration and braking that the car had. It took me four more sessions that day to get "up to speed" and I still had so much more to learn and a ton of car left to use.

Driving on the street will never come close to showing what these C6's are capable of. Amazing cars right off the show room floor.

Tom, That sounds like a great learning experience. We all think we're great drivers until we watch a pro do it the right way. These new cars right out of the box exceed most driver's ability to drive them near the limits.

my wife and i built our 2 car extra high garage in our yard. we spent less than 20 grand with the 2 post lift. It is my getaway and she has her quilting room. being at home is great because when i do need a hand she is always available.

If you can! When I was faced with outgrowing my typical suburban 3-2-2 in 2002, I found I couldn't build what I wanted just anywhere. All of the suburban towns around here had serious restrictions on how much garage you can build and even what it had to look like. I briefly considered moving outside the city limits, but after looking at some property, it dawned on me during the drive back to town that I would have to drive that distance every day in traffic. I wouldn't have time to tinker after work and would be spending a fortune on gas, thus defeating the whole purpose.

I wound up in an older neighborhood on the wrong side of the tracks, but the lots were huge, it was closer to work downtown and the zoning let me put up a big metal building in the back yard. (Only a deed restriction made me put brick on the side facing the street). The very next year, my city council passed a new zoning ordinance to restrict accessory buildings in residential areas to a mere 500 sf or barely a 2-car garage. Good thing I built when I did as I doubt I could have gotten a variance.

Its getting harder and more expensive to have a classic car hobby in many ways, both directly in the form of automotive environmental laws and indirectly in the form of local property codes and ordinances. Sanctuaries like this condo thing may be where the next generation of car-guys have to go in the future.
