I have an opportunity to purchase F70 x 15 restoration tires. They have 7 ribs instead of 9 and they say "Sup-R_belt" which began in later years. How many points can I expect to be deducted from the 60 potal for all 4 tires?

Re: judging of 1969 tires
Hi John,
I think the standard deduct is about 2 points per tire or 8 points. I could be off there. The judge may find other items on the tire such as the width of the stripe.
Kelsey tire makes the 9 rib tire if you want to check them out at http://www.kelseytire.com/pages/preformancetires.html
You might be getting such a great deal on the 7 rib tires to take the point hit.
Good luck,

Re: judging of 1969 tires
John,
If you check the standard deductions in the judging reference manual, it will probably be 20% to 30% depending on whether the judges think the tread and lettering differ slightly or differ considerably from the originals.
Assuming they are the OEM brand, type, and size, the rest is up to the judges. Regards,

Re: judging of 1969 tires
I have a set of older Firestone Sup-R-Belts, (what I think is the date code is L001302P maybe someone can ID it though). These are 7 or 5 tread. Any thoughts on this variation?
The new repro Sup-R-Belts are supposed to be from the same tooling as the old one but the detail on the tread is not the same-you can see in the side-by-side photo. It is close, but not from the the same steel that made the original one next to it.- Top

Re: judging of 1969 tires
John,
Sup-R-Belt tires were never used on Corvettes. They were used at the same time on other GM cars. There may be a heavier deduction in judging than 8 points since there are several deviations from original: the number of treads (7 instead of 9), the words "Super-R-Belt", the construction which was fiberglass belted as opposed to nylon cord. At the 2008 Novi regional I had these tires on my '69 and received a 10% (3 point) deduction. At the National this year I had original Tiger Paws on so I received full credit and I don't know how the Super-R-Belts would have judged. Perhaps I am wrong about the 8 points or better deduction so those more experienced will have to chime in.
