1972 Hi Speed Blower Relay - TJ Info

Working on troubleshooting a 1972 hi speed blower motor relay on a 1972 350 with air. The blower motor relay that's currently there is old, has 5 connectors at bottom (2 top , 1 middle, 2 bottom) with one unused. Looks like an aftermarket relay stamped 7081 on outside of silver-ish looking case.

    Manual shows part number 1115881;

Does the Technical judging manual discuss / describe the correct finish or stampings for the factory original/correct hi speed blower relay ?
(this is the mounted on the passenger side on the evaporator wall).

Or is any available/correct replacement acceptable?

    Thanks -

    Scott.

Just to update the post for future searches, another NCRS member emailed me with the following information.

    "This is from present JG
    Housing and Fan Relay
The fiberglass housing covering the evaporator was black fiber unpainted reinforced plastic. Sometimes there is a small oval-shaped inspection tag with an inspection date stamped on it. There was also a rectangular Harrison Radiator foil tag attached to the fiberglass housing. A fan relay is mounted to the fiberglass plenum. The relay had the Delco Remy logo on the black cover in 1970 and 1971. In 1972, the cover was natural metal and squared on the edges with no logo."

Just to round out this post, based on the textual description provided I did some digging. For reference, here's what appears to be the 1970/1971 relay switch:

And based on the description of the 1972 in natural metal, this appears to be the 1972 version:

Have one on order and we'll see if it solves the issue of no hi-speed air.

      Scott,

You are going to have to find a home on those relay connections for that Orange wire. You might have received more responses over here with the pictures you posted on CF, but then again maybe not.

Scott my 72 Air car has the original relay, it is as stated in your post, natural metal and has no rounded edges, The one in your post may be a replacement style, and has a cad. plating and rounded edges. The relay in 72 is of a box style.

          Thanks for that info.

Good news is that I picked up one tonight locally to see if I can mechanically solve the problem. It's fixed!

The blower relay was toast. New one in and working.

Now.. sounds like I need to search for a more exact replacement with a square box style.

Thanks. Got the blower relay working. There is nothing coming from that wire. I suspect the Orange wire (since it just runs around the engine compartment from the horn relay fusible link) was replaced and I'm seeing the remnant.

It's all cleaned up and good to go.

All the responses and assistance have been great.

            Wiper Tach Solenoid is next!

I'm glad you got it going Scott. I hope whoever did the wire replacement put a fuse in it. That fuse is there for a reason, even though it can be a pain.

Yes. The red wire comes from horn relay to a white fusible link (fuse holder) with correct fuse which connects to the orange wire. Orange wire runs around the perimeter of the firewall to the blower relay and delivers 12v.

I will ultimately trace back the other wire and if I find the other open end, remove it.

                Thanks again.
