REVISED POST: Gathering data on ALL 57 Corvettes with VINs between 581 and 645

BACKGROUND: Regular Production of fuel-injected Corvettes started on Nov. 1, 1956. According to “The Corvette Birthday Book,” the first VIN on Nov. 1 should have ended in 581 and the last VIN on Nov. 5 should have been approximately 650. My car is VIN 646, so it was manufactured approximately Nov. 5 (the 3rd workday of FI Regular Production). To the best of my knowledge and data gathering so far, it appears to be an original 250hp FI car; the engine is stamped F1016EM (Flint, Oct. 16, 283 cu. in., 250hp, manual trans.). According to Ken Kayser’s book “The History of GM’s Ramjet Fuel Injection on the Chevrolet V-8 and its’ Corvette Racing Pedigree,” (a great book, by the way), Oct. 16, 1956, is the day before the first FI units arrived at Flint from Rochester Products Division. Ken estimates that 60 to 63 FI Corvettes were built in the month of November 1956, out of a total production that month of 490 Corvettes. With 21 workdays in November 1956, one can estimate that on average approximately 3 FI Corvettes were produced each day that month (although it would not be unreasonable to think that production of FI cars might have been slower at the very beginning of the month). Assuming a rate of 3 FI cars per production day, my car should be within the first 9 FI Corvettes (and it could be one of an even smaller number, if FI Regular Production got off to a slower start). I would like to find out how early my FI car really is.

DATA REQUEST: I am looking for any and all 1957 Corvettes with VINs between 581 and 645 (inclusive--a total of 65 cars). If you have a car in this VIN range, please let me know, to the best of your knowledge, its orginal horsepower rating: 220, 245, 250, 270, or 283. You can send me a private post if you would rather not post your VIN data publically.

RESULTS: I’ll make a simple spreadsheet of the results (without owners' names unless you want your name shown) and share with all. Thanks for any input.

I will probably post this message to other Corvette forums in hopes of getting additional visibility and data.

VIN 646 is 55 years old today, Nov. 5. As the year goes on, a lot of other '57 Corvettes will turn 55. Happy birthday.
