Hood release handle repair 66

The handle off my hood release cable came off yesterday. Looks like the pot metal threads gave out. The threads on the cable look ok

Can this be repaired?

Is this a machine thread where a heli-coil insert can be placed in the handle?

JB Weld?

Any other methods?

Could you drill and tap for a small set screw?

The handle is pretty much useless in its present state, soooo, I'd put some JB weld in the hole and stick the threaded shaft in there. Let it set overnight and don't plan on ever getting it apart again.....

PS. Take it out of the car before you do this....

There is also some thread repair epoxy type with a thread release that might be an upgrade so that you can remove it again.
