PV - Have Questions / Need Clarification

My 67 was judged Top Flight at the October 2011 Lone Star Regional. Now I am trying to decide if I should go for PV. I have read the PV Test Guide several times. Most of the tests are clear and well defined by numbers. I need clarification on the following test to help me decide on PV.

    Ron,

Surprised no one has responded as yet, so will attempt a feeble response

Rick, thanks for the reply and information. I should have mentioned in my post that my 67 is a convertible. Hopefully, there is a difference regarding wind and rain leaks compared to a coupe. I'm going to test my E-brake in my drive way it has about 1 foot incline. As for the other tests I'm working with a friend to verify their performance. I know I have things to fix (odometer, tires, tack bounce and some dash lights). Those are the ones I know about now but I'm sure the list will grow.

      Thanks again.

Re: PV - Have Questions / Need Clarification

        Ron,

I'm glad to see you are considering the PV test. It is very detailed, but can be done. My offer still stands, just reach out to me either via sending a message or an email from the Tech board. I'm happy to chat over the phone as long as you need answering questions.

For the headlight buckets, Rick is right. If you run the headlights up, watch the amount of time from when the first bucket is completely open until the second bucket is completely open. If they are within a couple seconds of each other, you're fine. If they are more than just a couple seconds apart, you may want to consider swapping out a motor or rebuilding a motor. I had to go through a couple sets of motors before I found a matched pair that opened reasonably together.

For the wind/air leaks, the soft top weatherstripping you and I were chatting about at the Regional is adjustable. So is the orientation of the side glass. The weatherstripping has three screws along the vertical section that meets up with the rear edge of the main glass. You can loosen those screws and slide the weatherstripping back and forth to meet the glass. Similarly, you can open the door, and there is an adjustment screw at the bottom of the door for the main side glass track. This will swing the track inboard and outboard a bit. Here again, you're looking to balance two pieces. 1. Make sure that the glass is adjusted so the window doesn't bind or cause excessive force to be rolled up. 2. Make sure the weatherstripping seals to the glass. I did it in that order, and my car is pretty tight in terms of weather sealing.

The parking brake cable adjusts with two nuts underneath the car. These two nuts are on either side of the clevis that holds the cable that stretches between the two brake shoes. Just tighten the cable up a bit so the parking brake holds the car on a medium grade hill. If you over-tighten it, it will cause the park brake to drag while driving, so make sure you don't do that. You'll notice that error if the brakes/wheels get really hot or if the car seems to be lugging going down the road. Just back the nuts off a bit if you're that far. If you can't adjust the nuts far enough to get the car to hold on a hill, you might have other things that need addressing inside the rear trailing arms for the parking brake.

        How's that?
