    1966 Hubcap Questions

I want to re-do my '66 hubcaps this winter and I have two ( 2 ) questions regarding them.

#1. Is there or was there a small sheetmetal concaved cap that fit behind the plastic hubcap emblem in the spinner? I have 4 of these from a box of '66 hubcap parts I acquired somewhere years ago. They have the letter "C" imprinted on them. Don't see them in the AIM or parts books.

#2. The 10-24 screws that hold the spinner/spacer on. Are they to have any particuliar head mark? I have a set showing what I would call a "P" on a sweep or maybe you would call it a "Rocking P"

    Any help appreciated.Thank You

Don, I think that cap gets loose and rattles. You should have posted yesterday as I was in the attic looking at the original stuff from my 66.

I noted a couple of the original screws have fallen out over the years too. But I can get up there next weekend if no one has a good picture of the back of the real caps.

If you are planning to show the car, know that the spinner has been seen in three versions, the original that is as-per the JG, the 70's service parts somehow did not get the vendor logo, and these new repro's...all bets are on you or someone that has purchased them to tell us if they meet the requirement.

      Don

Perhaps this pic will help. The attached photo shows partially disassembled spinners, spacers. On the spinner to the lower left, I used a dremel tool to remove the emblem backing plate, then secured it after replacing emblem with a 2-part epoxy, as you can see from the photo. Not sure about head marks on self-threading screws, but these are original. (The flat washers are not - I added them)

Thank You Jeff & Ronald. My spinners and spacers are original. They have all the part numbers stamped that show in the AIM. Thanks Jeff for the photo. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. I thought the sheetmetal caps were to go behind the emblem but I wasn't sure. Jeff, does your sheetmetal caps behind the emblems have a "C" stamped into them?
I was only wondering about the screw headmark because all of these were the same but I did not know if they were correct.
I won't worry about the headmarks, I'll just use them due to their good condition. Thanks Again

          Don

I don't recall if the caps had any characters stamped on them, and I've since re-assembled them. I also added 1" dia. plastic/nylon plugs to fill the center holes in each wheel cover & keep debris, brake dust, etc. from getting behind the spinner & spacer.
