Dropping the rear differential on a C2/C3

I'm ready to drop my rear differential. Where's the proper place to put a floor jack under it? Will it be properly balanced if I place it under the area where the spring bolts up or where the tier rod bracket bolts up? It will of course still be bolted to the crossmember.
    Thanks,
    Jack

    Jack,

consider leaving the diff attached to the crossmember and removing the two as an assembly. Much simpler and easier. Remove the crossmember bolts and temporairly install much longer ones. Use a very long crowbar to separate the crossmember from the frame. The long bolts will keep the assembly from dropping free when the bushings finally pop loose.

Mike is right, I loosened the front mounting bolt (snubber), installed small block head bolts to drop the crossmember onto then slipped a milk crate under it, took the head bolts out so the diff could sit on the crate, took the front bolt out and slid the assembly out from under the car. A little patience and luck with the sombrero cushons and you'll be done in 15 min. Good luck!!!
