    67 Birdcage Ground to Frame

Can anyone tell me where the ground strap from the bird cage to the frame is located? Can I see it from under the dash area?

Does anyone have a picture of each end of this ground connection?

    Thanks!

    Al -

It's a braided copper strap with a barbed push-on terminal on the front vertical edge of the LH side birdcage sill panel, and a ring terminal on the other end, screwed to the front side of the #1 body mount bracket on the frame with a star washer.

On my 63 it is right where the driver's footbox meets the frame at the rear of the engine compartment. One end has an "eye" connector that screws to the frame with acstar washer and the other end has a clip-on fitting that slides over a piece of thin sheetmetal at the bottom of the birdcage. It is a braided copper strap. The AIM for your car should show it.

John beat me to it with much better descriptions.

Cars assembled without the U65/U69 radio option didn't have this ground strap.

Where can I see this actual ground connection, to check it - from under the car?
                Or elsewhere?

Look where John has shown in the picture from underneath the car.

                      Michael -

Per the released specs, that's correct, but it was a pretty dumb way to release it - that strap was the only (electrical) connection from the birdcage to the frame, and everything in the car from the firewall back was grounded to the birdcage through the radio connector ground pigtail wire. Any other grounding point from the birdcage to the frame was "accidental". I'd bet St. Louis figured that out in a hurry and installed it 100%.

                        John,

Actually, I don't think the frame has to be grounded, at all, in any 63-67. It is though.

I can think of one good ground source for the frame, even on vehicles without the radio option.
