1963 Corvette Z06 Convertible....

....saw it at Bloomington 2005/2006ish??? Was either Black or Daytona Blue w/Saddle interior(I think). Was from Utah? Overheard an NCRS Member at that time that said "It was the Holy Grail in the Corvette World".

...haven't heard or seen anything about it since? What ever happened to it? Didn't see the results of it being judged, so I never found out if it was the "real deal"? Was it?

Never saw it in person but I think your asking about the Black/Saddle leather car that was discussed here years ago.

An interesting thing about that cars serial number was that a few years after the Black car came to light, someone had paperwork for the same vin but showing that it was a Silver/Black FI car with metallic brakes.

It would be interesting to know the body number for the Black Z06 to see where it falls into line with other cars.

the car resides with an owner here in Maryland - VIN is late 17xxx - all the original documentation is with the car

I don't remember seeing a Restorer article, but it was featured in "Corvette Magazine". Also an ad ran in the Driveline across 2 full pages for several months at a princely sum.

About that same time frame, perhaps a year or two earlier, there was a Daytona Blue Convertible Z06 that was at St. Charles either in the For Sale lot or being shown as a "Survivor". Had dark blue interior I believe (like mine), but was all original and in need of some TLC. Believe I have some photos of that one as I photograph every Daytona Blue 63 I see anywhere.

John Hinckley took a bunch of photos when it was shown at a Regional in Utah a few months after it was discovered and sold. It was owned by a retired GM engineer who parked it on orders from a judge when it was barely a year old and had sat in a Michigan garage ever since. The family of the deceased engineer sold the car, but I don't remember the new owner(s) name.

I recall that the new owners took it to at least one auction not long after - maybe one of the auctions during Monterey Historic week, but it didn't meet the reserve.

...haven't heard much about it since.

The car is black/saddle with much much paperwork. A person I know (Bill), from Utah, found the car in a bard with a 1953 Corvette. This car was ordered by a GM empolyee, then parked because of traffic tickets. This is the REAL deal!!! If I could post picture I have some of the car in the bard when they found it.

As I mentioned, car is here in Maryland - have contacted the owner to find out what kind of information he wants to release - basically every piece of documentation came with the car when he bought it a number of years ago - believe odometer shows around 79xx miles - the car has 2-bar gear-driven k/os on it - I first saw the car in 2004 at Bloomington Gold, when I had my Z06 there

It's #17166, originally ordered/purchased by Waino Husko; it had steel wheels when purchased, which were still on it when it was found, and when it was shown for the first time at the Zion Regional in 2003. It had 2-bar KO's on it when it got the Bloomington Gold Survivor award in 2005.

Perhaps my recollection of the one I saw back then is a little fuzzy. Was the Z06 convertible of which you fellows speak the only coonvertible made in 63?

That's a different car. I have copies of all the original paperwork on #17166, including the Corvette Order/Car Shipper. Photo below from the Zion Regional.
