I agree with Kenneth. Mr. Martin is quite a guy!

I believe that he is sincere in what he says. He is a great advocate for the collector car hobby. He really gets around. I see him everywhere! I am just surprised that he has time to read our forum.

I got to speak to him at the 2011 Keels & Wheels Concours D'Elegance in Seabrook, TX. He was taking photos of my '75-1/2 Chevy Cosworth when I approached him. He was kind and thoughtful in his responses to my magazine content questions. (Thank you, Mr. Martin, for announcing my car correctly at the awards ceremony)

I am a subscriber to both of Mr. Martin's publications and find both very informative. I will look forward to the new format. -Clark

I subscribe to Sports Car Market and really enjoy that publication.
I did not subscribe to Corvette Market, because it was too focused for me.
There are plenty of outlets for Corvette only.

Sure I love Corvettes, but I like all Classic American Cars too. This is exactly what I was waiting for.

Excited about getting the new magazine...

Re: Another magazine bites the dust

I just recently started my subscription to Corvette Market. I really enjoyed the magazine. Sorry to see it go but I'm glad there will be a publication out there that will reflect current Corvette pricing. I have no intention of canceling my subscription.

Also, Mr. Martin, I enjoy your show, What's My Car Worth?, on the Velocity channel. Keep up the good work!

Re: Another magazine bites the dust

I just ordered my subscription to American Car Collector. I liked Corvette Market okay but with such a narrow interest, I felt that picking up a copy off the newsstand once a year was good enough for me. My interest in the collector car hobby is much broader than just the Corvette. In my mind there is a distinction between the collector car hobby and the restoration hobby and I limit my restoration to the Corvette but follow the market of all late (66 - 71) American Muscle.

Re: Another magazine bites the dust

I have a question for Keith Martin followed by a general comment.

First, will the Corvette Market Pocket Price Guide also be going away? It’s a great handy little pocket guide and one I’ll really miss if it is also defunct.

Second, having been enticed by your marketing department just a few weeks ago in early September to extend my Corvette Market magazine subscription, I re-upped my subscription for two years. I did this with the understanding that the two year subscription would come with three Corvette wall posters. The Corvette posters have yet to arrive.

I must say, Mr. Martin, that I find it disingenuous, to say the least, that your folks would be marketing a multi-year subscription to Corvette Market knowing full well that you intended to refocus the magazine to collector cars in general and not Corvette’s specifically. Remember, your folks contacted me and offered the two year extension to Corvette Market NOT collector car market. This is the type of questionable business practice that can give an organization a black eye. Having gotten that off my chest, I plan to give your refocused publication a try. However, I am not a happy Keith Martin customer at the moment.

I hope that your organization is a little more above board with us in the future.

Peter, I agree with your comments. I have been burned in the past with long term subscriptions for titles that end up going out of business (Car Collector & SportsCar International as examples). In some cases if they merge or are bought out you receive another of their sister publications for the balance of your subscription which may/may not be of interest. I have most of a year remaining on my CM subscription and will check out the new format issue after which I fully expect to cancel the balance. Also, was the subscription renewal you did for "2 years" or a specific number of issues? I cancelled Autoweek over this when they went from a weekly to a twice a month publication; the subscription I signed up for was 52 issues a year and it became 26. I will be interested to see if current CM subscribers have their subscriptions "ending" at four or six issues.

                Keith,

It certainly was very cool of you to chime onto this thread, and to see that you are a NCRS member and on the Techincal Discussion Board!

I LOVE your show, it's just great!!!

I will miss Corvette Market, but totally understand and look forward to seeing the new mag.

                Very Best,

I appreciate that Keith offered his comments here. I like that he states we can get a refund as opposed to the "too bad/so sad" responses we've received from other folding Corvette publications. Fortunately they have not gone the "digital only" route.

I'll give the new mag a shot, although Ill admit I liked it for the Corvette only market report. Other cars interest me, but not to the extent that the Corvette Market does. This was my favorite magazine and I suspect Ill cancel.

I also subscribe to Sports car market- too bad you didnt combine Corvette Market with that... I would have loved it. Kinda makes me wary of extended subscriptions of any kind, though.

Keith: I can't wait to see the new publication. I really enjoy Collector Car Magazine, and think a magazine with more than just Corvettes will be very compelling.

Good luck in the new venture and count me in as a continuing subscriber !

Re: Another magazine bites the dust

I thoroughly enjoyed Corvette Market and hope that the new magazine has enough content for me to keep going. While I understand the marketing angle, this worries many Corvette folks as we don't have much left in terms of dedicated Corvette magazines. There is Corvette Magazine, which almost totally caters now to newer Corvettes and mods. I ended my subscription after many years when there was almost nothing left of interest for me to read (as I don't care about the new Vettes or modded out chome crap everwhere). Then there is Vette Vues which I still enjoy. And of course we have the awesome NCRS publications.

I just subscribed a month ago when I finally purchased my '66 Coupe. I've been reading it for years & occasionally brought a copy.

I'm looking forward to the new coverage (have 2 other '65 poorman classic cars) IF the vette coverage isn't diminished. For that to be the case, the mag will have to have a lot more pages....we'll see, eh?

Re: Another magazine bites the dust

I get both the Corvette Market and Sports Car Market publications, and love them both. If the C1 through C6 spotlight articles disappear with the new publication, that is what will disappoint me most. However, I have little interest in foreign cars, and I have only subscribed to Sports Car Market to follow the American cars. With the American cars now being covered separately, I will probably let my Sports Car Market subscription lapse, and just get the American Car Collector publication.

If the Corvette Market publication survived, and the American Car Collector magazine was a new addition to the stable, I would have subscribed to both. I'm guessing that I am not alone, and that an unintended result from this move will not only be a drop in subscribers who bought the Corvette Market magazine, but also a drop in subscribers to Sports Car Market.

Loren, I agree with your thoughts on the likely result of the change. I am not a current subscriber to Sports Car Market, but might have added the American Car Collector if Corvette Market continued intact. Now I'm not sure if I want either. I guess the first issue will tell us all a bit more and decisions can be finalized.
