    1965 Radiator Question

Should a 1965 radiator have the part number (3155316 per Tech Info Manual) stamped on top of the radiator? Mine does not. No date code either. Thanks for any help on this.

    Mike:

Yes it should. See this link from dewitts. http://www.dewitts.com/pages/productdetail.asp?ProdID=2

I am assuming that you have a small block car. The 1965 396/425 HP radiator was also a similar aluminum radiator, but was slightly larger and carried a different part number.

Larry: It is a small block car. Thanks for the Dewitts' info which spells it out clearly. This car had an aftermarket a/c system in it at one time. They likely changed the radiator at the time that unit was in there. It has a 7 bladed fan which is also wrong for the now non-air car. I do plan to put air in the car (a must in the deep South and especially due to the fact that I plan to drive the car).

If you're talking about the radiator pictured in your fan clutch question thread, that's not an original Corvette aluminum radiator. In fact, it's not even an aluminum radiator, at all. It's a copper-brass aftermarket replacement for a Corvette aluminum radiator.

Joe: That is the radiator in question. One of the two other owners of this SCal car put an aftermarket a/c system on it. The refrigerant lines ran out of the inner fender and then down inside the rocker panel molding (they are still there!) and then back into the cargo compartment behind the seats where the blower unit was situated. The cargo lid was raised some (they did a neat job) and cold air blew out toward the front of the car. I wonder if some aftermarket outfit made a kit 'back in the day' that could be installed in a Corvette in this manner or did someone just fabricate the set up. Have you ever heard of such a unit? The second owner of this car was a well known guy named Tom Sparks. He provided cars for the movie industry and was a well known SCal hot rod guy (now deceased). He likely is the fellow that did this installation. Thanks for your comments.

I'm not familiar with any of the aftermarket A/C set-ups.
