    66 Rear End Cover Bolts

Could someone tell me the correct bolts to use on my "66" rear end cover.
Are they cadmium or black and what is the correct head marking? Also what about the lock washer? I read about this in 3 threads in the archives but they all where about the "67", and said they where black phosphate.
Is "66" the same as "67"? The new Tech manual on page 181 does not address my question or anything else I have read. Thanks for any replys. Ed

Black bolts. On my 66 they are slightly recessed head with a "o" in the center and three lines going from the "o" outwards.

Your right Micheal. Upon closer inspection mine are natural, not black. Thanks

I think you had it right the first time. All of these bolts that I've ever noted were black phosphate finished. I've never noted one that I would call a natural finish.

Paragon reproduces these bolts and their reproduction is very accurate in every way.

Possibly, however I've noted natural finish on numerous vehicles as stated.

If they were natural finish they would be long-since covered with rust. In fact, even if phosphate-finished they would likely be somewhat rusty.

In addition, Chevrolet rarely used natural finish bolts on Corvettes, especially in applications that were not subsequently painted. Natural finish nuts and washers were quite common, but natural finish bolts were not. The only applications I can think of for natural finish bolts were some bumper bolt applications.

These are phos, I still have some bought in the day. It was a very common service part and paragone was simply continuing to purchase from the original supplier. Natural bolts - even in the box - are completely rusted 36 years later on. Raw unprotected iron can't stand up to 20% oxygen in the atmosphere.
