regarding a 1110872 56 225 hp distributor, can someone with a known original snap some photos of the configuration of the Oil Tube with GITS cap. after the oil tube is threaded into its final position,does the angle the tube is bent allow for the GITS cap to be behind or in front of where the tube threads into the distributor housing. my 1110872 GITS tube is behind where it threads into the housing (closer to firewall). Nolands book, , p 156, shows a 57 carb'd engine with the oil tube GITS in front of where it threads into the dist housing. thanks,mike

Re: early 56 distributor Oil tube
Mike;
Here are some photos of 872s. The first photo is of the 872 on that original white 56 that was at Old Town. The one with the Indian head hood ornament on it. The other pic is of my 872 (dated 6 C 5) that is installed on my 56.
The oiling tube curves back toward the rear so that the cap is between the ignition shielding and the firewall. The later 56 879s and the 891s are 180 degrees opposite of this.
Every 872 that I have looked at (except one) has this style oiling tube. The one that did not had a standard straight passenger car oiling tube and a brand new repo tag. I did not think that one was a real 872.
Does that answer your question.- Top
