Question Regarding This Picture

This pic showing MY 1981 production at St. Louis has been floating around on the internet for quite a while now. I have long been curious why these completed (and apparently primered) bodies would be sitting outside. Can we speculate the body shop crew could put them together quicker than the paint shop folks could paint them?

Most likely those bodies were placed outside temporarily in order to strip one or more of the oven conveyors for major oven cleaning or repair; the (medieval) St. Louis Paint Shop never had any in-system oven-strip accumulating conveyors, so they had to put them outside when oven work was required.

I was going to theorize that it was an attempt to get a head start on birdcage corrosion but I guess John's explanation makes more sense.
