65 L78 Horn Orientation

According to the AIM, page E-196 or 12-A6, shows the HI note horn on the RIGHT and LO on the LEFT. The manual also shows the horn relay on the right and the wire feeding both horn from the right. However, on the L-78, the horn relay is mounted on the LEFT and the wire feeding the horns also is from the LEFT. Note: If existing horns (on this car) are installed as per the AIM, opening of the horns will be towards the fender side on each side.

What is correct for the L-78 cars?

The Assembly Manual illustration is correct as shown; the 9000488 hi-note horn always goes on the right (passenger) side, and the 9000487 lo-note horn always goes on the left (driver's) side, with the openings facing the centerline of car. L-78 horns and orientation are no different than on any other '65. The L-78 used a unique engine wiring harness similar to the one used on other 65's with A/C (they also had the horn relay on the left side).
