Did GM grind the heads off the upper door rivets so that the weatherstrip fit better. Both doors have basically just the shank under the rubber. I'm wondering if I should replace using a round head or smaller flat head since its located on a curved surface.

Re: C2 Door Rivets
Hi Scott -- no; they did not grind the rivets flat at that location (or elsewhere on the doors, either for S-body or Dow Smith sources, based on examining my '65 coupe and convertible). Believe you'll find that your example of the rivet, which will be covered by the weatherstrip, should be the same (smaller) size as used on several other locations; a flat head width 9.5mm or 0.375" dia., probably countersunk to be flush with the surface. Note the upper corner of your picture for the location where one of the five vinyl door panel clips is located. I believe your rivet in question should be the same, although am not sure about its length at the weatherstrip location.Did GM grind the heads off the upper door rivets so that the weatherstrip fit better. The other big flat rivet in your pic has a head of 14.5mm or 0.57" dia., and is used at multiple locations.
In my thumbnail (attached) the rivet in question (under the weatherstrip which is not installed [yet] in my case), looks larger than it is, due to proximity to camera. Also check two other pics at my second, somewhat related post (rant) that I'll load in a few minutes.Attached Files- Top
