    62 steering

After rebuilding the steering box on a 62 vette, what kind of scale do you use to check the resistance for the lash and where would one find one of these scales? Thanks Phil

I used a trigger pull scale (gauge) for guns, available on line for very reasonable amounts and it is light enough to work perfectly.

Do a search for steering box rebuild by Tom Parsons. He is the expert on this "by feel" if I remember right.

Read the following CAREFULLY. Understand the words. Pay attention to the meaning.
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH DOING THE REBUILD PRECISELY BY THE BOOK. BUT FOR THOSE WHO MAY NOT HAVE ALL THE RECOMMENDED TOOLS, THE FOLLOWING LINK WILL GET YOU THERE JUST AS WELL AS THE BOOK DOES. My uncle (Mom's older brother), who was a factory trained Chevy mechanic, taught me MANY things about working on cars, particularly Chevys, one of those things was rebuilding early frontends and steering boxes. He was a master of shortcuts (as many mechanics have learned to do out of necesity), NONE of which compromised the quality of the repair.
