    1971 doors

Is there any difference between a coupe door and a convertible door on a C3 other than the glass, weatherstrip and alignment pin housing? What I am trying to find out is, if I take my pin and housing and transfer it to a coupe door from a convertible door, will it fit the same way? I have been trying to find a replacement convertible door because my inner sheet metal is unrepairable, with no luck. Coupe doors in good shape our readily available, on the otherhand.

The doors are basically the same, C3 is a wide spectrum, some are the same and some have the guides, but all will mount and fit. Except ,you will probably want to stay away from 68, unless you have one.

Call David Sokolowsky in Gardena, Ca. He has an incredible collection of Corvette parts. Most of the Corvette vendors buy used parts from him.

What is the name of the company? I'd really rather try to find an original door. I have tried a bunch of places with no luck.

Hmmm. I found 1 really nice driver side conv. door, right year. I found a couple of 71 coupe doors that are in decent shape. Thats why I was wondering if I could "make" a covertible door from a coupe door.

            Frank,
There have been earlier threads on this subject, but if you can find a decent coupe door, you will have to add the metal plate for the guide pin that convertible doors have.
Have seen this plate available from the major parts suppliers.
BTW -on '73 and newer, the door will have the added safety beam as part of the metal underskin structure.

Once that is done, you can then

Bob, Just an FYI. We have seen that safety beam on a few VERY late (last couple of days of production) 1972s. And if you know where to look you can see the edges of it in the door jamb -- on the door of course.
