73 trans numbers...

    73 trans numbers...

    like my previous post about rear deck numbers...i just purchased a 73 "survivor" coupe. i'm finding that almost everything is original and correct with only 1 exception...the transmission numbers. the muncie date code is P3h12a. that means 1973, august 12. my car was built in june. also the vin number has the very last digit missing. could these 2 errors just be a mis-stamping on either muncie's or the line guys part? everything else on this car is sooo original i can't see it having the wrong trans in it. i have alot of documentation and nothing shows a trans replacement on warranty.

      The "H" in a Muncie "P-code" stamp is for June, not August.

          hey john...i guess i'm reading the wrong books. where did you get the muncie info? i have been using the M.F.Dobbins fact books for the trans numbers.

              NCRS 1968-82 Spec Guide, 4th Edition, Spring 2011, page 87. Muncie and Borg-Warner codes are different.

                  NCRS Spec Guide pocketbook shows the Muncie coding as well as Warner.
