    '65 Oil dipstick - oil amount between add & full

    Hello,

    I'd like to know how many quarts (1?) oil are between add and full on a 327/300 '65 engine and original dip stick. I've never had the oil level reach add.
    Another question: Supposing that the engine overhaul was done properly as well as the breack in (4000 miles ago) how much oil (10W 40) consumption is acceptable under normal driving conditions.

    Regards
    Oliver

    My 327/350 after a very very very good rebuild and 30,000 miles last year since rebuild burns 1 qt. every 1,300 to 1,500 miles.

    Most of these cars even new used 1 qt between 300 & 500 . The tolerances from the 60's (factory) was not as good as you can get today from a good rebuilder.

    Also , torque of intake bolts and others will affect this along with down shifting for braking.

      My '63 327- 300hp was rebuilt 10 years ago. I drive about 3000 miles a year and have never had to add oil unless doing freeway driving for several hours. Drove from Columbus Ohio to St Louis and back. Used a quart. Was running 75 most of the time.

        Jack;

        It's coming from the right bank, at least that's where all of the smoke was coming from. Next time you change your plugs you might be able to see if it's any one particular cylinder-2,4,6, or 8.

          Is my assumption correct that it is one quarter of oil between add and full?
          Since I have my garage change the oil I don't know this.

            I believe it's one quart between add and full.

              Tom is correct, it is one quart between Add and Full, which is what I believe you meant to say. However, I doubt that the measurement on the dipstick is all that accurate.
