What to bring to a show

When showing your car (NCRS or just a car show) do you bring original documentation, sales literature, etc? How do you display it? Do you bring a table? Do you leave documentation in a binder. Do you bring restoration photos?

Great question. Hopefully, you'll get several responses.

First, make sure you have some towels and at least 1 fender pad. Also, some tools to remove the ignition shield, etc that is required by judges. My first time, I was totally unprepared. Perhaps NCRS should provide a check list for those "newbies"

You should also have a fire extinquisher and make sure you have an NCRS decal properly displayed.

Have all your documentation. I would have it in a binder that stays with you, not the car. If something is questionable on your car, documentation may help in clarifying it.

The above applies to NCRS shows. For local shows, copy your docs for display in a 3 ring binder and keep the originals in a safe place at home. Place your photos in the binder as well and enjoy yourself.

Also you need to bring a wrench or socket to remove your spare tire carrier lid to drop your spare. Bring chairs to sit in as its a long process. Don't forget your battery disconnect as the NCRS decal, fire extinguisher and battery cutoff are the "freebie" 10 points you don't want to lose..
Car cover, bottles of water to drink and a spray bottle of water to spray on your windshield to wt your windshield when doing operation check on your wipers. I also brought soft towels to put on the sill plates to avoid being scratched when they were doing interior.
I also bring a plastic syringe to prime my windshield washer pump before judging. I also bring a large blanket to put behind the car to place the spare tire on, as well as my air cleaner lid and wing nut and air cleaner base. I put the original POP and other glvoe box stuff in the car when interior is being done, but remove them as soon as the interior judging is over so nothing happens to them.

A chair to sit in, an umbrella in case it rains or shines, sunscreen water etc.

Most importantly, fresh batteries for your hearing aid (if required) to absorb all the info that will be shared with you, an open mind and a sense of humour. If at any time you feel that you're not having fun or not learning, you're doing it wrong.

All these are good suggestions for NCRS, especially the chair with an umbrella built-in. For regular car shows, I have made copies of all the documents (so the originals are safe and sound in my book at home), like tank sticker, window sticker, protect-o-plate, pre-delivery inspection sheet, etc. and put them on a tri-fold stand-up board you can get at Hobby Lobby. I also make copies of the original advertising materials like mag ads, etc. It always makes for great conversation starters as people admire the car.

A showboard might just get in the way if there's limited floor space. None of the typical show and shine display stuff is required or of benefit during NCRS judging.

True, NCRS is much more sophisticated, and the general public is usually not invited (or encouraged it seems) to the judging anyway.

You've put a negative spin on what I was attempting to say. I believe the OP, who appears never to have attended an NCRS meet, would like to know where best to direct his efforts to be adequately prepared. As Rick A responded, none of what was originally listed is part of the judging process.

My usual thought on this question is to suggest that the owner attend a meet or two and maybe help judge someone else's car to see how it all works before having his own car judged.

I've never been to an NCRS meet where the general public were not permitted access to the cars, but putting them on public display is not really the prime purpose of holding a judging meet.

I think it is not only useful but vital if you are to inform, educate, and interest the general public (none of which usually know anything about older Corvettes) in these great cars. I put my 'Vettes in about 5 times as many car shows as NCRS meets, and they are usually the center of attention for the crowds, as C2s are usually pretty rare out there. I find the younger kids at car shows to particularly enjoy the history and detail items about Corvettes of old, and I love talking about them to them. Of course the public is not banned from NCRS judging meets, but they are usually not encouraged either, as it has been said, that is not what NCRS meets are about, they are for the members. At my last regional meet, a few general public people were wondering around, nobody seemed very interested in talking to them and there are usually very few general public at most all meets.

This is true I have not been to any NCRS judging yet (I'm thinking spring) All this info is extremely helpful. Ive attended many car shows but only entered one about 30+ years ago with my first antique car a 1931 Chevrolet 5 window coupe. So keep the ideas coming!!!!
