Help with my 1970 outside mirror

    Hello Everyone,

I need some help from those in the know about my 1970 outside mirror. I want to know if it's a repop or an original mirror.

I'm suspecting it as a repop as "someone" had to file the rear mounting screw (see photo) of the mounting plate to make the mirror fit. The only numbers on the inside of the mirror is a 1955 and a HH.

Also, for a Early Feb. 1970 build, would a 12-DMI-69 be a typical date for the mirror glass?

All help appreciated - THANK YOU

Early reproduction mirrors were made using the GM tooling and are impossible to detect. The glass date sounds very close.

Does anyone know who might sell or replace original side mirrors with date coded glass? Like Kurt I would like a dated one for my March built '70. The one I found that I removed from the car is 10-DMI-3, I assume for a 1974. It seems like I read somewhere that the glass can be removed to repair loose mirrors. I was thinking that if I could get only a dated mirror I could install it in a reproduction.

Scott..I got mine several years ago from Paragon. As Dick mentioned I understood that Paragon had purchased the tooling to make the ouitside rearview mirror from General Motors. I was told back then that the repo mirror from Paragon will judge perfectly with no deduction. The mirror is that perfect.

They also will do a date coding on the mirror for a small additional cost.

Over the years I have never lost not even one point on my outside rearview mirror. The NCRS Judging Guide says that a judge can not take points if he/she thinks the item is a repo. There has to be a difference in originally for point deduct and there just isnt any! We all know that chrome and mirror glass does not stay perfect in 30-50 years, but you have to have a difference from the original for a deduct.

Dick..correct me if I am wrong, but that is what I have seen over the years.
