    1972 original color for shocks

The TIMJG states the shocks are painted a semi-gloss grayish blue. What manufuacture makes the closest match and where can I purchase?

    Thanks.

Jerome, I used quanta shock paint. I think that it may be hard to match the original gray paint using a rattle can. I f you know of someone that may have a original shock to use to try and get a color that maybe close.

Ed, I looked at Quanta's website and they have the grayish-blue spray paint. However it appears they only ship ground transportation. (7-10 days) Do you know or does anybody know of a close equivalent that can be purchased locally. I am short on time.

I just went to Lowe's and bought the closest blue/gray I could find, and it worked well.

We chassis judges are not THAT picky on the color.

Patrick and Paul liked the blue-grey on mine at this year's national judging. I'm certain that I still have what's left of the spray can at home. I'm pretty sure it was a local purchase.

Look for another post from me on this later. I'll let you know what the paint is and I think I have a pic of the finished product too. BTW, there are white paper broadcast codes afixed to the shocks - 1 code for front and another for rear. I'll let you know what the 2 letter alpha codes are in my next post.

I remember the company is Seymour paints and the paint is the HI Tech Enamel it is I think the dark gray 16-117 here is their web site for this spray can.

Jerome, I see that Mike has posted a photo of an original shock, giving you the color to duplicate. I checked my paint stash and found that the paint I used was indeed a local purchase. The unfortunate news for this thread is that Paragon is local for me. I bought the exact paint that Paul is referencing and pointing you to (Seymour HI-TECH). If you are in a hurry and can't take the time to order and wait for shipping, I suggest you print the color sample from Seymour's web page and take it to you local paint supply or home goods store and get the closest color you can in a semi-gloss finish.

As for the broadcast code decals, I made mine on the computer. The JG calls for std suspension '72 shocks to be coded PE (front) and PY (rear). I printed mine on white address labels and cut to size and shape. They worked fine and judged with no deduct.

                  I hope this helps...

Last Friday I was able to find an original '72 shock and cleaned it up and took it to a Company called Space Age Auto Paints. They were able to match the paint and give me 2 aerosol spray cans of matching paint. Turn around time 12 hours. I think they are owned by U-Haul.

                    I am very satisfied.

Thanks to all for your help and input.
