NOS 7 fin valve cover question

My found a chevy dealer has NOS 3726086 valve covers in stock that should work with my 58. Question is are these identical to the ones that came on the car originally? Or are they probably nos made in like the 80's or something and will be slighty different from originals that actually came ON the car when new? He did say the they have the part number inside the valve covers.

he said they are $48 a piece. I just find it too good to be true I guess. Wanted to make sure before I waste money on something that judges can tell isn't correct but he says they're GM nos.

    thanks

Brandon, The dealer would have service replacements for your 58. You need the low script covers. The height of the Corvette script is .030 plus for 57 and 58. The replacements would be correct for a 59. John

Looks like the low script was just on very early 1958's not sure when they went to high script so I may pick up a set of these nos high script ones and hope mine falls into where high script lettering is correct.

anyone have more info on the script height for the 1958 model?

NCRS Judging Guide: "1958 models have low-relief script (.030"); 1959 and 1960 have high relief (,125").

The last couple of sets of NOS covers that I have seen from the dealer have excessive slag on them. They really looked bad.

I have a set in the garage, and they would require a significant amount of sanding to look halfway decent.

Brandon, Recently saw a set of low script 58 valve covers from a June car. All original car that is being restored. The valve covers are low script.

The service replacement staggered hole valve covers can be very crude looking. Not worth buying. If you are set on settling for high script valve covers the fleas are loaded with them.
Cheater: Take a nice high script valve cover and have the script milled down to .030 or a tad higher. Then sit in front of the TV and sand out the machine marks. Very convincing unless you look very close and see that the letters do not have a relief to them.

Email me for more info. JD
