    DMV records NY and IL

Does anyone know how long both states keep records for, or how far back you can search them?

    Thanks,

NYS did go back five years but when you try now they say something about 911 rules are in place whatever that means...Depending on who you talk to you may still be able to go back five years...Good luck getting anyone on the phone.

      Tom,
The last time I did a title history here in Illinois they kept records going back 10 years. It's been a few years so I don't know if they still go back that far.

I wrote to state of NY earlier this year. Looking for anything on my '64. I am in contact with the original owner and had his written permission to release any record. It was registered in NY until at least 1975. I received a form letter saying "no records found".

Well, I guess either of them will not have any original owners info for me then.

          Thanks for the reply's.

New York keeps the last three owners only if the car stays registered in New York state. If the car is not registered for five years in NY, its gone. Phil 8063
