Fuel Line Stone Guard Spring

How far around the "loop" is the rear stone guard suppose to extend?

The spring on mine appears to be bunched up. It will not stretch any further because the line is flattened around the bend and the spring will not pass through the wider spot.

I forgot to include a photo of the stone guard. I spent at least two hours polishing the rusted fuel line with a steel brush mounted to my bench grinder, but it turned out nice and shiny. I sprayed it with clear enamel to seal the raw steel.
