    1963 4sp shifter

    Hi,
I am looking at a car with a May 1963 build date. I thought that at some point the 1963 4sp was switched to a muncie from a T-10. Was the shifter linkage changed from the old lock out style to the new one ie 1964+.
    Thanks
    Jeff

The transmission did change from T-10 to Muncie during the 1963 model year. However, the shifter style did not change---it remained essentially the same for all of the 1963 model year. The shifter style did change for the 1964 model year and, then, remained essentially unchanged through 1967 as far as basic configuration goes.

      Jeff,

Once I had a 63 SN 14,XXX made in May of 1963 and it had a Muncie Trans. Original owner and the SN on the Trans so I'm sure it was original to the 63.

And just as Joe pointed out, the shifter was the same as the T-10. Didn't change until the 64 model year.

Just a note I have a 63 May car and the muncie is correct for it. It uses the same shifter as the earlier T10 transmission however it uses the muncie shifter rods. The T10 shifter rods will not work on the muncie.

The only difference is the reverse shift rod and all three TRANSMISSION levers.

The shifter is the same as well as the first/second and third/forth rods.
