67 BB Center Drag Link - Relay Rod

    Hi All,

Can someone provide detailed information about the center drag link or relay rod on a 67 BB. I'm looking to purchase one and need to know what to look for.

    Thanks,
    Dave

There's no difference between a small block and big block relay rod for 1967. Whether you are talking about a power steering relay rod or a manual steering relay rod, they are both 3/4" rods.

The manual steering rod has provisions for a steering shock absorber. However, when used for a big block application, they are not used.

I have NOS examples of both the 63-68 manual and power steering rods [not for sale] but, at the moment, I can't find the manual steering rod.

Dave -- if it's a manual steering one, here's some pics of mine from a post (#16) in an earlier thread.

So to clarify - The car is a 67 435 with manual steering. Therefore, I need to find a 3/4 with 5 holes relay rod? Or do I need a 7/8 with 5 holes.

        Thanks,
        Dave

          Dave -

You need a 3/4" with five holes; the 7/8" didn't show up until 1969.

If you look for a 7/8" with 5 holes you'll be looking for a LONG time. Actually, I believe that such a rod MIGHT have been made for SERVICE-only. However, I've been looking for one for about 25 years and I've never seen one.

Also, while a 3/4" rod is correct for all 1963-68 Corvettes, you don't think that GM changed to 7/8" in 1969 (and, for 1963-68 SERVICE) because the 3/4 rod worked just as well, do you?

I understand what you are saying Joe. The difference is I need it NCRS correct and the car won't be driven so much that something will happen.

              Thanks,
              Dave
